Streaming Tv’s are taking over conventional tv, especially since 2020. I also have multiple subscriptions: Netflix, Hulu, and Prime video (paid link). They all leave quite a dent in our pocket in the form of a subscription. What is worst is that even after having all the memberships and excellent internet connectivity, we can face poor video connections like buffering. Despite having a good internet speed from the provider, the wireless router is to be blamed if the internet is slow. So, I have decided to take this task on myself and help you choose the best router for streaming.
Why Trust me?
I am a solopreneur, a father, and a husband. The reason to trust me is that I am a family man. And I do not want junk products for my family. I consider you (my readers) part of my family too. So, I only recommend the products that I used and will use. The items that I love for myself and my family.
You will never ever see me promoting products just for the sake of commission. As you can clearly see that I am transparent about being an associate (affiliate) of amazon. You can find disclosure on top of every post and in my blog’s footer, also on the advertiser disclosure page.

Let’s start with answering some frequently asked questions about wifi routers for streaming.
Will a better wireless router help with streaming?
Yes, it will. If you have an outdated or router running on 2.4 GHz, it can slow down your connection. However, the routers with 5 GHZ bands have less interference and can improve your streaming experience. Some routers are so powerful that they can even enhance bad connections into a good connection. Also, do you know instead of connecting wirelessly, you can always connect with an ethernet cable. But that option is not viable if you want to connect multiple devices.
However, If you’re going to look at ethernet cables, I have listed some of the best ethernet cables for gaming. Don’t worry. They can be used for streaming as well.
What is the best router for streaming multiple devices?
NETGEAR Nighthawk X10 (R9000) is the best router for streaming multiple devices. More details are discussed in the review section.
What are the best routers for streaming TV?
I have created the following comparison table to make your shopping easy and answer this question more visibly.
Now I am done with faqs. It’s time to look at the routers for streaming.
Google Wifi (2020 Model)- Righteous Daddy Choice
This is a mesh system. The one-point works as a wifi router, and the other two can be used as an extender so you can have the coverage for your whole home. I was not expecting it to by my choice, but it’s genuinely an excellent streaming wifi router. These meshes are compact yet powerful.
Let’s look at features that made me list this in my article and made my first choice for streaming.
Google WIfi is an extraordinary device that allows you to stream 4k tv and make video calls without sacrificing quality.
The best thing about this mesh system is comfortable and adjustable coverage. You can easily place them anywhere you want and can attain the maximum coverage without any hassle.
Easy to Setup
This is the most user-friendly router system I came across. Setting it up is very easy.
Easy to control
The best thing about this mesh system is controllability. You can control it from anywhere just using your cellphone. So, yes, there will be no sluggish web interface where you have to adjust things manually.
It has a quad-core ARM processor.
The google mesh system comes with 512 MB RAM.
You get all the features without paying extra. From the price point of view, it offers more value to end-users than many other routers so, I can say that it’s a bang for bucks.
Three points system that can handle 100 devices each
I would highly recommend you to get all the three-points packages instead of getting only one mesh router. As each point can handle up to 100 devices at a time. However, In reality, after 50 devices, the connection became slow. So, I would not recommend connecting 100 devices at a time.
If you are into eco-friendly stuff, get the google wife router because 49 percent of recycled material is used in this mesh router.
- Offers a lot of coverage. Each one can cover up to 1500 square feet of area.
- It has Automatic Wifi optimization of 802.11 K/V client roaming
- For wifi connectivity, it offers Ac 1200
- Each point has 2 ethernet ports. So, if you get 3 points, you will get a total of 6 ethernet ports.
It is a circular-shaped point. Extremely lightweight as it weighs only 12 ounces. And has dimensions of 4.17 x 4.18 x 2.7 inches. Makes it one of the lightest, compact, yet powerful mesh router system for streaming.
Finding flaws in this mesh router system is not easy. However, the two things that I noticed. First, it gives very little manual control to its users. Second, The Ac rating is comparatively lower than many routers out there. As it has on AC 1200.
My Two cents
If you are looking for the best router for streaming that is compact, easy to set up and use, and offers a buffer-free experience with a lot of coverage. In that case, Google mesh routers are the best options.
But, if you are into conventional routers that offer tons of features, this mesh router system is not for you. Also, I would not recommend this mesh router system if you want to have AD and AX standard rating routers. As it has AC ratings only.
NETGEAR Nighthawk X10 (R9000)- Best For Streaming Multiple Devices
Nighthawk x10 R9000 is the best router for streaming multiple devices at once. It has a powerful processor, minimalistic design, and high coverage.
Let’s see what this router offers.
Nighthawk x10 is specifically designed for streaming. It can easily stream up to 4k quality without any buffering. However, your internet connection should support and back it up too.
It comes with a potent processor. Nighthawk x10 offers a 1.7 GHz quad processor for reliable 4k streaming.
RAM and Memory
Nighthawk x10 has 1 GB RAM and comes with 512 MB NAND memory.
The ad technology is faster than ac. And this router has both. 802.11ac and 802.11ad. So, without any doubt, you will enjoy faster streaming and download.
It has Mu-Mimo so, you can enjoy simultaneously streaming on multiple devices without stutter and buffering.
Netgear ensured that you get coverage everywhere in your home. No spot without the wIFI. This router offers coverage even for huge houses.
Three Wifi Bands
band one runs at 2.4 GHz. The second band runs at 5 GHz, and the third band is for streaming purposes that can attain 60 GHz.
- It has beamforming for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
- It has both 802.11ac and 802.11ad.
- Nighthawk x10 has 1 Wan and 6 GB ethernet ports.
- This router has a plex media server that allows you to stream your content on your devices.
- It has IPV6 Support
- Also, it has two USB 3.0 ports.
- Comes with 4 External antenna
The nightgear has a no-nonsense, straightforward design. In the center, you can see the mesh, and on top of that, there are two triangles. And on the behind and on edges, the four antennas are covering it.
It weighs 4.11 pounds and has dimensions of 8.81 x 6.61 x 2.91 inches.
The first drawback is that it is not the most recent router. I think it was released back in 2017 so, that’s that. This router lacks the detailed quality of service interference. The web interface it offers does not justify its pricing. I get that it is an older model. However, even with the 2017 released router, I was not expecting this slothful interface.
My Two Cents
Suppose you do not care about the router release date and standard quality control, and an average slow web interface. In that case, I highly recommend this router. However, If you are into more advanced and modern routers, this option is not for you.
Streaming is incredible on this router, even in 2021.
ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX11000
This is the best router for streaming and gaming. It is the most powerful router you can get for streaming as well as for gaming. It is prevalent among gamers, but I think streamers will enjoy its features too!
It is famous among gamers how it can benefit streaming?
No doubt ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 is heavily marketed towards gamers. It is a tri-band gaming router that has a dedicated 5 GHz band for gaming. However, If we are not gaming, then guess where all the power will go? Yes, you are right. It will go to streaming.
To make you understand it better, let’s look at its features.
Triband routers are more powerful than dual-band routers. ROG rapture by Asus offers two 5 GHz and one 2.4 Band. And this is where it stands out for streaming. Yes, I know it has a game first approach, but I was amazed to see its power and coverage.
Triple Gaming Layer
If you are into gaming. This router offers a triple-layer. It can efficiently optimize, lower the ping, and prevents lagging while gaming. This technology and feature also assist in streaming.
Rog Rapture has one of the most powerful processors. It comes with Quad-core 64 bit 1.8 GHz CPU.
WIFI 6 Ready
If you are looking for a router for long-term use, this router can be handy for you as it is WIFI6 ready.
This router is also excellent for streaming on multiple devices. However, As this router is designed for gamers in mind, you should be wary of connecting more than 12 devices at a time. Because I have seen that if you have more than 15 devices connected simultaneously, rog rapture slows down.
RAM and memory
The Rapture has 1 GB RAM and 256 Mb memory
This gaming router comes with built-in Ai security powered by trend micro. It protects your network from being attacked without any need for antivirus.
It has a feature known as Vpn Fusion. This function runs at the same time with the VPN connection to an ordinary connection. In short, it allows you to have a VPN connection for gaming and streaming while keeping the speed of your own internet connection.
This function highly essential if you access other country Netflix libraries using a VPN. I sometimes access Netflix UK, Netflix Germany, utilizing a VPN. However, the speed drastically gets dropped but with this function On. There is no buffering and no speed drop. That’s the function best for streaming.
- It has a network 802.11ax network standard.
- Rog rapture can connect with 802.11 ac routers as well without any hassle. As it is backward supported
- It has Ax technology enabled
- This router has 8 external antennas
- The operating frequency uses Tri-Band, two 5 GHz, and one 2.4 GHz.
- For wired connectivity, it has five RJ45 ports: one for WAN and 4 for LAN.
- It supports Alexa Skills.
- Also, it is IFTTT supported.
Asus Rog Rapture AX11000 looks like a miniature UFO has just landed in your home. And some small aliens are working inside them to operate everything. That’s how I felt when I first saw this device. 😊
It has a square, bulky shape. With 8 antennas, that looks like they are its wings. It also has RGB lighting that can be controlled via the software. In a nutshell, this device seems like a miniature alien space ship with 8 wings.
This device weighs around 4.5 lbs and has dimensions of 11.30 x 4.74 x 14.86 inches.
The number one thing you will notice that this router has no Mu-Mimo. The second thing that some people find it to be space taking as it has a bulky design. The third issue is that it is not budget-friendly.
My Two Cents
This is another excellent router for streaming tv. It is heavily marketed as a gaming router. And yes, it is a gaming router. It can still be used for streaming, especially if you are accessing other countries’ Netflix libraries or whatever streaming service you are using. VPN fusion features do not slow you down. It has tri-bands that are superb for less interference connectivity. The router also has built-in security, and that’s why you should buy it.
However, if you are not into gaming and looking for a compact and Mu-Mimo router, I would not recommend purchasing it.
What To Look For In a Router For Streaming?
I have created this guide to help you choose the router for Television streaming. If you have not liked any router from my list. This guide can be handy for you to pick yourself the one you want. The following infographic and text explained everything you need to know for a tv streaming router.
A device that offers fast WIFI even on long-distance from itself is the router you should go for. As you can see in the list, I mentioned those routers with dual and tri-bands so you can attain the maximum speed without less interference. The 5 GHz bands are all about speed, while the 2.4 GHz band offers more stability. So, I picked the routers that provide both speed and stability.
In simple terms, look for a router that offers excellent WIFI speed without sacrificing the signal’s quality. You cannot use the wired connection all the time.
A router for streaming without maximum coverage is useless in my eyes. What is the benefit of a router if you have to stay near it to get the buffer-free streaming experience? The best tv streaming router gives you the same quality with its drop-free coverage in the whole house.
Offers A dedicated band or port
When you look for a router for streaming, ensure that the router has a dedicated band connecting the desired device. In this scenario, the tv is our first device, and we want it to have a maximum bandwidth. So, look for a fast lane port or QOS port.
In case you are connecting with WIFI, then look for a dedicated band in the router. For example, the above mentioned Rog Rapture and Nighthawk x10 have dedicated bands. They ensure gaming and streaming get maximum power.
If you are using a streaming device then, you should connect it with the quickest band or port available
Easy to setup
The router you should choose must be easy to set up with easy to understand interface. So, You can have total control over your device. Don’t end up getting routers that are fancy but very hard to setup. You will only regret getting this kind of router.
Offers both Wired or Wireless connectivity
A router that offers both wired and wireless connectivity is your best bet. There is no doubt that the maximum speed you can attain is via ethernet cable. The Wi-Fi can have so many interferences that sometimes it boggles our minds. So, a router that offers both wired and wireless connectivity is something you should look for.
Yes, you have to consider the process or even the router to attain the maximum streaming benefits. In the above list, I have listed the routers that offer quad-core processors. However, But for a minimum, you should at least consider routers with dual-core processors.
Ram is equally important in routers. You should get at least 256 MB of ram in a router to experience the best tv streaming.
Wrapping it up…
Everything ends so, this article also has to end. I have provided the maximum information I can say about routers for streaming. I analyzed around 10 routers and chose only 3 that are good for streaming. To make your shopping easier. I have created and listed an infographic and text buying guide.
If you are into a compact, easy to use the router, then go for Google Wifi.
If your purpose is only streaming, then nighthawk x10 is another excellent option for you. But if you want to futureproof your networking and do not replace your router regularly.
Go for Asus Rog Rapture, As it offers the best of both worlds, gaming and streaming alike.
Hope you will appreciate the hard work I have put into this article.
